Analyzing Student Data in a Spreadsheet

I used google spreadsheets to analyze data. By using this tool, I was able to learn the basics of making a spreadsheet. I have never used a spreadsheet before, and this is a great tool to be able to use in recording data as well as making charts. I feel this was an important tool to learn for my future as a classroom teacher.

This data is for test 1-10, showing the average tests scores for test 6-10. I highlighted in red the students who had a test score below average and made a new chart showing those results below.

Overall, the below average students improved with each test. Although they were below average from the whole class, they did show improvement which is important to recognize. Without separating these students out from the rest of the class, I may have missed their improvements with each test. This is pleasing to the teacher and then the teacher can further her instruction to help those students achieve even more. Teachers can help their students learn test taking skills and also teach how to analyze what is important to learn for test. The teacher can also periodically review material covered in class to try to improve the test scores.

Below is a graph showing the progress of each of the students who had test scores below average for tests 6-10.
