OETS

OETS, Oregon Educational Technology Standards, is a guideline with technology standards that teachers must follow in the state of Oregon. Three of the six standards are creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, and research and information fluency.
One standard is creativity and innovation. Students need to use technology to use creative thinking and problem solving skills. They can create powerpoints or presentations, websites, blogs, and videos. A teacher can assign students to use yodio and then put it in the classroom website that they are working on together.
Another standard is communication and collaboration. Students can use google docs and collaborate together on a presentation. They can use 4shared.com to share their papers with the teacher or their peers. They can use Tokbox and Skype to communicate with others in other countries or they can make blogs to communicate information with others. Teachers can have their students learn about other cultures through technology. For example, a classroom can Skype another classroom in another country and show eachother an activity or game.
Another standard is research and information fluency. Students use digital tools to gather and use information. The internet can be used to find and gather information. If a student needs to find information about a specific thing they can google it and find relevant information on their topic. Students can also analyze and evaluate information or data by using a spreadsheet on google docs. Google docs is a great tool to use to make presentations, spreadsheets, or documents and can be accessed from other locations.
